Terry Basista was raised in West Tennessee, the son of a Pennsylvania Yankee and a West Tennessee farm girl. After high school, Terry returned to his family's roots back east and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1967 with a B.S. in Liberal Arts. He majored in Zoology with a heavy emphasis on the sciences, including Physics and Chemistry. Terry's familiarity with the sciences has served him well in his subsequent years of litigation.
Terry worked his way through law school, working full-time on the night shift at a micro-analytical laboratory and part-time on the weekends at a grocery store. He graduated from the University of Tennessee Law School, receiving a Juris Doctor degree at Knoxville in 1974. He passed the bar exam on the first try that same year and entered private practice in Campbell County.
Terry has been a member of several professional organizations, and he concentrates his practice in the Greater East Tennessee area, including the counties of Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Claiborne, Knox, Loudon, Roane, Sevier, Scott, and Union. He is licensed to practice in all Tennessee State Courts and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
Terry has been engaged in general trial practice, working for governmental, corporate, and individual clients. He has developed a proven methodology for successfully settling a number of multi seven-figure and single seven-figure and six-figure personal injury cases, maximizing recovery of monetary damages for seriously injured clients. While he appreciates the rewards of a successful personal injury practice, he also enjoys the challenge of business and property litigation and the occasional unique litigation opportunity presented by general trial practice. Naturally, he has a robust family law practice, which includes divorce, custody, and adoption cases. Even after almost 44 years of practice, he still finds renewed enthusiasm for helping people of many different backgrounds with their varying multitude of similar and diverse problems.
He likes history, politics, economics, computers, downhill skiing, motorcycles--he presently has a 2004 Harley V-Rod--and airplanes. Terry has also been active as a board member for many years with what was once the Knox County Humane Society and now known as the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley. He is presently an active board member of Friends of Campbell County Animals. He is married and has a stepson, two grandsons, two dogs, and a very brave cat.
If Terry takes your case, you will have his cell phone number and his email address. He believes that there's no point in hiring a lawyer if you can't reach him, so he makes himself readily available to his clients. Call today to schedule an appointment to discuss your specific legal matter.
